Why Blog as a Realtor?

A senior Realtor in my South Dayton, Ohio office asked me this time last year, "why blog?" He thought it was ridiculous, and that home buyers and sellers would never read, or appreciate, the information provided. He asked me again the other day, "How many clients did you gain so far from that blog?" The answer - tons! I believe that home buyers and sellers appreciate FREE information. I subscribe to the "get by giving" business philosophy, and I often "pay it forward".  80% of home buyers begin their home search online AND 80% of home buyers are Gen X and Gen Y. According to an article published in September 2008:

"More than two-thirds (68 percent) of online Americans say they visit online blogs, communities or social networks, and 33 percent engage in product research online to help make purchase decisions, according to the August/September 2008 Insight Report from MarketTools - writes MarketingCharts."

You are so right! Paying it forward always comes back to us in one way or another. The more we think of others and focus on serving our clients, the more our business will grow. Thanks for bringing that back into focus.

I absolutely agree.  I'm afraid agents that don't want to change with times are going to miss the bus!!

Christina, I have been in the business for ten years and many consider me a senior agent. If I would have listened to the agents when I got started who asked !WHY!, I would be out of business today. Do what you believe will work and it will...

Hi Christina,

You are absolutely correct.  There are many ways agents get clients and one is through an active Internet presence.  I will link to selected posts in my personal web site and that has gotten a lot of traffic as well.  I want to accomplish a number of things:  drive traffic to my web site, get new clients, rise above my competitors, and provide more services than the average agent.

Thanks Christina,  I agree with you.  It can be quite addictive but fun as well.  In our market we have seem to have a competition between a handfull of who can get the highest ratings on the search engines without paying for it except for our time and research.

Good Luck!
