The average days on market in January 2009 was 130, which is 39 days slower than the Real Living Realty average days on market.

Want to be earth-friendly at home? Here are 10 ways to live green:

1. Use compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) instead of incandescent bulbs to save energy. CFLs use 75% less energy and last 10 times longer!
2. Only run the dishwasher when fully loaded to save water.
3. Make sure the pot size fits the burner when cooking to save energy or gas, depending on the stove.
4. Unplug appliances and electronics when not in use to conserve energy.
5. Use eco-friendly, biodegradable laundry detergent and bleach which costs the same as standard products.
6. Buy gently used furniture and other used items instead of adding to the landfill, consider thrift stores, garage sales, Craigslist, and Freecycle.
7. Compost!
8. Change the temperature on your thermostat, each degree lowers the energy bill by 2%!
9. Tune up the HVAC system every 2 years to save energy.
10. Stop junk mail to reduce pollution, organizations such as the Direct Marketing Association provides services to opt-out.

Jump on the green bandwagon by using green eco-friendly paint at home instead of latex or oil-based paint! Green Seal, an environmental organization, reports that more than 80% of purchasers are buying green products. The new green eco-friendly paint is more durable and longer lasting than older versions of environmentally friendly paints. Paint emits airborne chemicals, called volatile organic compounds (VOCs), even after it is dry. VOCs contribute to air pollution and can cause health problems such as cancer according to the Environmental Protection Agency. Green eco-friendly paint releases little or no VOCs because it is a water-based paint. The lowest VOC paints are marked with a Green Seal.
